Costa Rica Waterfalls
In recent years traveling has become a special passion for
people and every year millions are seen to visit Costa Rica. This can easily be
touted as a tourist spot that has suddenly gained popularity. Whether it is
hiking through unknown jungles, visiting private coves or hiking to extreme
waterfalls, Costa Rica offers its visitors a host of activities to engage
themselves in. Despite being one of the most visited places worldwide, Costa
Rica is still to an extent undiscovered and the greatest discoveries that maybe
made there are perhaps of the many waterfalls. These comprise the greatest
attractions in the place. There are mainly five waterfalls that attract
numerous visitors and each of them has its own story and personality. These five
are La Paz Waterfall, La Fortuna Waterfall, San Luis Waterfall, the Waterfall
of Los Chorros and the Waterfall of Montezuma. Some of these witness massive
numbers of people pouring in while others are going to remain known only
locally for a little longer.
Located in the central part of Costa Rica, La Paz Waterfall
has a fall of over 100 feet. It originates from the River La Paz and is located
in the La Paz Waterfall Garden that offers a natural habitat for various
species of birds and butterflies. The Poas Volcano is located nearby and this
area offers one the best attractions in Costa Rica. This is one place where
visitors will not get a chance to complain of boredom for there are numerous
gift shops around and an array of “combo” tours are enough to keep your mind
off your usual tedious routine. The entry fee for adults is $75 and for
children it is $60.
Next in line is the La Fortuna Waterfall which is as
spectacular as the previous one. Located just behind the quaint village of La
Fortuna with the Arenal Volcano being one of its neighbors, La Fortuna
Waterfall is the perfect place in Costa Rica where you could have a quiet swim
or even go to the bottom of the waterfall by a staircase specially built for
visitors. All you need to take are good shoes, sturdy swimwear and a waterproof
camera to enjoy the trip entirely. $6 is enough to take care of all the
expenses.
If adventure is what you crave for, then the San Luis
Waterfall is a ‘must do’ visit for you. Located near Montverde amidst a forest,
San Luis Waterfall is one of the most secluded waterfalls in Costa Rica. The
area is huge and any trip will take at least 6 hours to reach completion, with
most of them giving visitors the opportunity to ride on horseback along the
river. A swim can be a good idea for people who can get acclimatized to cold
because the water literally sends chills down the spine!
A waterfall that can literally drive you down memory lane to
all the rides you took is the waterfall at Los Chorros which widely known for
its power and turbulence. With a fall of over 180 feet, this waterfall has the
capacity to drench you completely and rob you of your belongings at one go!
Several tour operators function around the place and they conduct repelling
tours. These can be tremendous fun but to ensure safety it is suggested that
you stay in touch with the personnel.
The most famous in the Nicoya Peninsula are the waterfalls of
Montezuma that provide trippers with a sense of serenity, being located high
above the hills in the town. There are three consecutive waterfalls and the
final one has a rope swing and a pool where swimmers can take a dip. If you
want to reach the waterfalls without facing much hassle then it is best done by
visiting Montezuma Butterfly Garden first. The waterfall is a 10 minute walk
from here.
