Airports And Airport
Expansion Plans
If
someone says that the size of Costa Rica is such that it can fit into your
palm, know for sure that the person is saying so with due reason. If the fact
has to be put more appropriately, then it might be said that the whole of Costa
Rica can actually fit into Kentucky. But whatever it is, despite having a small
area, Costa Rica has a fairly large number of airports. The biggest among them
are the San Jose Airport and the Liberia Airport. While San Jose Airport serves
the city of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, the Liberia Airport is
situated in the Guanacaste region and serves the northwest beach areas that
score high with tourists. Both these airports are international with runways on
which planes of all sizes can run. The airports are well connected to all the
nearby areas since there are car rental shuttle services that are available,
bus services that are more popular with tourists and even courtesy vans that
are reserved for registered guests.
While in
Costa Rica the best way in which you can move around is definitely by car, but
for people who do not want their vacation time to get eaten up by traveling,
should opt for air travel, though this is bound to increase your expenses to a
great extent. Given the fact that this tiny country attracts about a million
pleasure travelers, primarily from the North American continent, the
infrastructure is all geared up to meet a range of traveling requirements. If
you are one amongst many such tourists, then you should not bother about air
travel since there are two domestic airlines that will bail you out in such
situations- Nature Air and Sansa. The airport at Pavas is used by Nature Air
and their service not only extends to all the major locations within Costa Rica
but also to Granada and Nicaragua. Sansa operates from the San Jose Airport and
the best part about this airline is that it lets you rent an entire plane. So,
if you are coming along with family or friends it is cheaper to charter and you
actually save on the whole. In fact these two airlines offer some of the best
deals in air fares. But one thing has to be kept in mind, that smaller planes
provided by these airlines can carry only up to a certain level after which
there may arise safety issues.
The air
industry is growing rapidly in the Central American country of Costa Rica since
tourism has started acting as the highest revenue earning sector. Additionally,
the airline industry worldwide is undergoing a consolidation phase. All these
factors have increased pressure on the Costa Rican government to upgrade the
country’s infrastructure, especially airport infrastructure. Annually millions
of tourists visit this scenic location and now the airport authorities are
taking note of this fact and accordingly making plans to expand its airports.
The beginnings of this journey are presently to be found and this is expected
to provide an even greater boost to the tourism sector. Now that it is the age
of globalization, smaller countries, Costa Rica being one of them, are also
taking a keen interest to enter the world development race and in a few years
time this country will definitely be a part of the big league. The local
government is also one of the recipients of International aid doled out by
various developed economies, and all these funds are being used to improve
existing infrastructure and create new ones.
